Serapio and Rufina 

Heart of the company

Serapio and Rufina are the proud parents of the Huamani family. They arrived in Bonanza in 1980, guided by their deep love for the jungle and simple living in harmony with nature.

 

Today, they are the dedicated managers of the Bonanza Ecological Reserve, where they ensure that every visitor feels the warmth and authenticity of their home in the Amazon rainforest. When you visit the reserve, you are sure to find them at the lodge, always with a smile and a story to tell. Together with their children, Serapio and Rufina work hand in hand to offer each traveler an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon.

 

 

Lourdes Huamani Choquepuma
General Manager and Professional Guide

Lourdes has lived her entire life in the Bonanza jungle and has worked there for many years, where she has been working for many years. She studied Official Tourism Guiding at the Instituto Superior Tecnológico Público Manu from 2000 to 2003, preparing to join the family business alongside her older brothers. She speaks good English and currently manages the main office. Lourdes takes great pride in being part of her family’s legacy. Her love for the rainforest and her dedication to conservation drive her to promote responsible ecotourism, helping to protect the Bonanza Ecological Reserve.

 

With years of experience as a guide, Lourdes shares her knowledge from firsthand experience, making her an engaging and trustworthy communicator. She is also a licensed guide for the Manu National Park (Reserved Zone). She enjoys meeting people from all around the world and can assist you in organizing tours in and around Cusco, always with a warm and personal touch.

 

 

Ryse Huamani Choquepuma

Assistant Manager and Professional Guide

Ryse uses a Hawke FRONTIER ED 20–60×85 Spotting Scope during his tours.

Ryse has lived and worked in the Bonanza wilderness all his life. He studied Official Tourism Guiding at the Instituto Superior Tecnológico Público Manu from 1999 to 2001, and speaks fluent English. After completing his studies, he began working as a guide for several tourism agencies in Cusco. In 2000, Ryse realized that there were no agencies offering authentic jungle experiences where visitors could camp and take part in true wilderness expeditions. This inspired him to start his own family-run agency, dedicated to providing unique and authentic jungle adventures.

 

His parents own about 12,500 hectares of pristine rainforest in the Cultural Zone of Manu. In this area, known as the Bonanza Ecological Reserve, Ryse and his family built Bonanza Lodge in 2004 a beautiful place surrounded by lush trails. With over 26 years of experience as a guide, Ryse has extensive knowledge of the rainforest’s flora and fauna. He is also a licensed guide for the Manu National Park (Reserved Zone).

 

 

Boriz Artilio Huamani Choquepuma

Professional Guide

Boriz uses a Vortex 20–60x85 Razor HD Spotting Scope during his tours.

Boriz has lived and worked in the Bonanza jungle all his life. He studied Official Tourism Guiding at the Instituto Superior Tecnológico Público Manu from 2001 to 2003, and speaks fluent English. After completing his studies, he began his career working as a guide for various agencies in Cusco.

 

Growing up and living in the jungle has given him deep knowledge of the rainforest ecosystem, particularly its plant life. His favorite animal is the jaguar, which he admires for its elegance and power capable of walking up to 40 kilometers in a single night while hunting its prey. Boriz is a passionate guide who loves to share his knowledge and appreciation of the jungle with travelers from all over the world. He is a licensed guide for the Manu National Park (Reserved Zone).

 

 

Darwin Huamani Huallpa 

Professional Guide

Darwin uses a Vortex Optics Razor HD Angled Spotting Scope, 16–48×65 during tours.

He was born on August 16, 1994, and grew up in the Manu National Park. He and his family utilized the abundant natural resources around them to live and thrive in the jungle, learning to embrace nature and navigate its challenges. Darwin attended primary school in the small town of Espinar and secondary school in the village of Colled Salvación. Later, he moved to Cusco, where he studied Tourism at the Instituto Técnico Antonio Lorena. As a jungle specialist, he has extensive knowledge of the plants, animals, and insects of Manu.

 

His lifelong experience has given him keen insight into how many species coexist and thrive together in the rainforest. He is particularly passionate about the thousands of bird species in Peru, always on the lookout for new species and studying their characteristics in his free time. Darwin is deeply committed to conserving and preserving the rainforest and loves sharing his knowledge, teaching visitors about nature and life within the Manu National Park.

 

 

Jordy Leónidas Llaqui Cusi 

Professional Guide

Jordy uses a Vortex Optics Razor HD Angled Spotting Scope, 16–48×65 during tours.

Jordy was born in Atalaya, in the Manu region, where his family has thrived by utilizing the abundant natural resources around them. Growing up in the jungle allowed him to embrace its rich biodiversity and learn to navigate both its wonders and challenges. He attended primary school in the port of Atalaya and secondary school in the nearby village of Salvación-Manu. Later, he moved to Cusco to study Tourism at the Instituto Americano de Turismo. As a jungle specialist, Jordy has extensive knowledge of the plants, animals, and insects of the Manu region.

 

His lifelong experience in the rainforest has given him a detailed understanding of its ecosystems and dynamics. Jordy is particularly passionate about the thousands of bird species found in Peru, as well as the broader wildlife, including plants, insects, and mammals. In his free time, he enjoys seeking out different species and studying their unique characteristics. His main goal is to help conserve and preserve the rainforest, sharing his knowledge and passion for nature with all visitors to the Manu National Park.
