Mammals of Manu Park

 

 

 UNFORGETTABLE EXPEDITION IN THE PERUVIAN JUNGLE  6 DAYS / 5 NIGHTS

 

In this tour we travel through the mountains to enter Elfin forest and cloud forest, where we do some walks to observe several species of birds, orchids and maybe monkeys. After spending the night in our private lodge (Rainforest Lodge) we continue 5h by boat to Bonanza Ecological Reserve lodge deep in the jungle, visiting hot springs on the way. Then we will continue downriver to  Bonanza Ecological Reserve where in the afternoon we go on a walk and enjoy the beautiful Observation Tower up in the canopy, giving you the opportunity to see macaws, toucans, and tanagers.  In the evening we do a night-walk to observe spiders (tarantulas), insects, frogs and snakes.
The following day we explore the primary rainforest (untouched) carrying with us all our camping equipment and food. There is a great opportunity to see many monkey species, parrots and an unbelievable variety of plants like giant trees, palms and medical plants. We arrive in the early afternoon  to Condeja River and camp on the river side in tents; after dinner you will do a night walk to see caimans,nocturnal animals and night creatures.

We will get up early, after breakfast we continue exploring carrying all our camping equipment with us and get to our Camouflaged house where you will enjoy seeing the finest wildlife behavior from animals such as Tapirs, deers, monkeys and many small rodents in the Mammals Clay LickTapirs and others animals eating salt mud during the night. On day five we go by boat river up to a beautiful lake to see capybara and many bird species, spending the night in tents in the river bank of Madre de Dios very close to parrots Clay Lick Muyuna. On the last day we return by boat and by bus to Cusco arriving early afternoon.

 

DETAILED PROGRAM

DAY 1: CUSCO - RAINFOREST LODGE.- We leave from Cusco by private bus, first stopping to visit the pre-Inca burial towers of Ninamarca. We then drive through the mountains, to get to the typical folkloric town of Paucartambo. Here we take a short walk around the town before carrying on to Tres Cruces, the entrance to the Cultural Zone of Manu and the cloud forest. From there we continue to San Pedro where will walk for around one hour to  visit  a complex courtship behavior, performing impressive lek displays  of Cock of the Rock national bird of Peru (Rupicola peruviana), monkeys and orchids. We arrive at our private Rainforest Lodge in the evening where we will stay for the night​.

DAY 2: RAINFOREST LODGE - BONANZA ECOLOGICAL RESERVE.- After breakfast we continue by private bus to Atalaya. On the way we stop to observe a coca plantation and at a view point where you can get a good overview of the jungle and the river. From Atalaya we leave by motorized boat to Aguas Calientes, where you can bath in the natural hot springs. During the boat trip we will see many different kinds of animals, especially birds, and a beautiful landscape. In the afternoon we arrive to Bonanza Ecological Reserve where we will have a short rest. In the afternoon we will have preparation for the expeditions and in the evening we leave for a night walk in the jungle to look for spiders, insects and snakes. We return to Bonanza Ecological Reserve  for dinner and spend the night in our beautiful, comfortable lodge.​

DAY 3: BONANZA ECOLOGICAL RESERVE - CONDEJA RIVER (Research Zone).- This day we explore the primary rainforest (untouched) carring with us all our camping equipment including food, crossing small creeks, swamp areas with a big chances to see many monkey species, birds like parrots unbelievable variability of plants like giant trees, palms and medical plants with ample opportunity to see all sorts of wildlife like a monkeys, sloths, anteaters, peccaries. Towards in the afternoon we will arrive at our next destination Condeja River, Our night will be spent camping in tents in the river bank with mattresses provided for your comfort and after dinner you will do a night walk to see caimans,nocturnal animals and nigths creatures.

DIA 4: CONDEJA RIVER - BONANZA ECOLOGICAL RESERVE .- We will continue to explore the vast amazon jungle through the nucleo zone of Manu National Park, having many opportunities to see wildlife such as 11 species of monkeys, colorful butterflies and other creatures that make the amazon so spectacular. This will be an action packed day for us; we will do several hours of trekking, and then finally arrive at the clear water Condeja River where we will camp out, this meandering river offers possibilities to spot Giant Otters, Drawft Caiman, Jaguar. Entering deep into the jungle heart takes will give us many opportunities to see wildlife, and really make your jungle experience as exciting and complete as possible. Our guide from the jungle will be a professional who will tell you about the jungle lifestyles, and also give you information about some of the less obvious wonders the jungle contains, like medicinal plants, jungle fauna, food. There will be a night in Camouflaged house where you will enjoy seeing the finest wildlife behavior such as tapir, deer, monkeys and many small rodents in the Mammals Clay Lick, as Tapirs and others animals eating salt mud during the night

DAY 5: CONDEJA RIVER (Research Zone) – MUYUNA PARROTS CLAY LICK.- After eating our breakfast we will return back to Bonanza Ecological Reserve, along the way we will have a chance to see a rich biodiversity of birds, monkeys (Monk Saki Monkey) and exotic plants. We will have time to shower and have lunch. Afterwards we will travel by boat 3 hours up stream, arriving to Muyuna parrots clay lick, where we will spend our last night having a delicious dinner and roaring bonfire. Our night will be spent camping in tents in the river bank with mattresses provided for your comfort. There is also an optional night walk especially White Caiman search. 

DAY 6: MUYUNA PARROTS CLAY LICK – CUSCO.- The sixth day will be our final day we depart early in the morning to the parrot’s clay lick where we can see many parrot and parakeets eating minerals. After that we will continue travelling up stream to Atalaya port where our private bus will be waiting for us and take us back to the magical city of Cusco arriving to Cusco early afternoon.
