DETAILED PROGRAM
DAY 1: CUSCO – RAINFOREST LODGE
We leave from Cusco by our private bus, driving through the mountains, to get to the typical folkloric town of Paucartambo. Here we take a short walk around the town before carrying on to Ajanacu, the entrance to the Cultural Zone of Manu Park. From there we continue enjoying since the mountain grass land, elfin forest, cloud forest where will walk for several hours to visit a complex courtship behavior, performing impressive Lek displays of Cock of the Rock national bird of Peru (Rupicola peruviana) quetzal,trogon, monkeys and orchids. We arrive at our private Rainforest Lodge in the evening where we will stay for the night.
DAY 2: RAINFOREST LODGE – BLAMQUILLO LODGE
After breakfast we continue by our private bus to Atalaya. On the way we stop to observe a coca plantation and at a view point where you can get a good overview of the jungle and the river. From Atalaya we leave by motorized boat to Aguas Calientes, where you can bath in the natural hot springs. During the boat trip we will see many different kinds of animals, especially birds, and a beautiful landscape. In the afternoon we arrive to Blanquillo lodge where we will have a short rest. During the afternoon we will visit our observation Tower, where we will have a unique view of the evergreen forest, enjoying the flight of macaws and many other colorful birds, owls and the sunset and then later on at night we will go to try and spot some owls. In the evening we leave for a night walk in the jungle to look for spiders, insects and snakes. We return to our Lodge for dinner and spend the night in our beautiful lodge.
DAY 3: BLAMQUILLO LODGE – MACAW CLAY LICK – BLANCO LAKE
Very early in the morning we visit the most amazing lake of Cocha Blanco. From a catamaran we watch animals such as gamin herons, spider monkeys, king fisher, Hornet screamer birds and enjoy watching the family of giant otters fishing. Returning to the lodge for lunch and relax. Late in the afternoon we have to visit the Macaws Clay Lick, very special place of, two types of Macaws come every day to eat the nutritious lick, located at the wall of the river. We will stay here at a camouflaged house, it is bird lover’s paradise, where you will get to see and hear many of them, however this activity is very much weather dependent and back to the lodge dinner and spend the night in our comfortable lodge.
DAY 4: BLAMQUILLO LODGE – BONANZA ECOLOGICAL RESERVE
We will explore early in the morning the amazing jungle in Blanquillo Lodge after these activities we take our motorized boat to Bonanza E. R. We might also see tapirs, turtles and caimans. After a short stop in Boca Manu. We continue upriver (Alto Madre de Dios River) to Bonanza Ecological Reserve. In the evening we walk to the camouflaged house where you will enjoy seeing the finest wildlife behavior such as Tapir, deer, monkeys and many small rodents in the Clay Lick, as Tapirs and others animals eating salt mud during the night. We stay there the whole night taking shifts to watch for nocturnal animals.
DAY 5: BONANZA ECOLOGICAL RESERVE – CUSCO
We get up very early to return to Atalaya by boat, where our private bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. We will arrive in Cusco in the evening.

What you need to take: VERY IMPORTANT
- Light sleeping bag or light blanket
- Insect repellent (minimum 25% DEET)
- Camera with extra batteries for several days
- Binoculars (10x42)
- Powerful long-range flashlight with spare batteries
- Macro lens (10–65mm) and telephoto lens (150mm–400mm or 600mm)
- Lens extender (1.4x or 2x)
- Waterproof case or dry bags to protect electronics and valuables
- Sunscreen
- Pocket money
- Daypack and reusable water bottle
- Battery charger for electronic devices
- Sandals (preferably with straps)
- Extra toilet paper
- Dark-colored clothing (camouflage tones are ideal for wildlife observation): long-sleeved shirts, lightweight pants, shorts, t-shirts, waterproof jacket, sun hat, bathing clothes, small towel, thick long socks, and trekking shoes
